Chalmers Gaston Davidson was born in Chester, South Carolina and graduated summa cum laude from Davidson College in 1928. He completed graduate degrees at Harvard, and then returned to Davidson College to serve as professor of history and library director. Dr. Davidson's life work was the study of regional history and service to Davidson College. He published several books including "Plantation World Around Davidson" and "Piedmont Partisan." General William Lee Davidson was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1746. His parents moved to North Carolina in 1750, settling in Rowan County. During the American Revolutionary War, he served as a lieutenant-colonel under General Nash. He was promoted to brigadier-general after a battle at Calson's Mill, North Carolina. He died on the battlefield at Cowan's Ford, North Carolina on February 1, 1781. Davidson College in Davidson, North CArolina was named in his honor. From the...
